Erika is an emerging British-Italian artist based in southern Spain. Working primarily in oils, she is inspired by the beauty of the natural world and how we exist within it.

Erika is guided by her emotive responses to her surroundings and this is what drives the creation of her paintings.

Erika started to pursue art seriously during the first Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020. She quickly began taking on regular commissioned work and now has collectors both in Spain and abroad, including in the U.S and U.K.

"Every painting is a chance for me to enjoy and explore the scenes that capture me, whether it be the soft form of a flower petal or an expansive landscape that takes my breath away."

The ONE thing that helped me finally sell this painting… 💸

I am very happy to say that this little painting has just SOLD 🔴 it’s one of my favourites and one of my best. Yet, I was never able to sell it before now.

And I think I finally know why.

The ONE thing that helped me sell it was… talking. Simply talking. Having confidence to speak about your work IN PERSON is something I find so difficult. I shy away from discussing my work face-to-face, or self-promoting. Quite frankly, I find it awkward as hell. 🥴

But you have to be your biggest promoter because no-one else is going to do it for you! I’m so glad I talked about my work to someone who didn’t even know I painted, and in that very same conversation, they decided to buy a painting…! You never know what can happen, so why be afraid?

Over the weekend, I took this white rose painting to be framed! We sourced a beautiful antique frame which we will cut down to fit the piece. I can’t wait to see it finished.

Framing artwork, of course, makes all the difference and @galeria151framing never disappoints! I’m so happy to see this piece finished, framed, and in its forever home 🥹

I had a lovely time out painting with @uskmarbella yesterday evening. It’s been a looong time since I’ve taken my paints outside, and it’s something I need to do more often!!

I chose this view of a lamp post with stunning purple-pink flowers behind, and the beautiful wall on which they were growing. There is a lot (and I mean a LOT) wrong with the final painting, but I’m actually really happy with how it turned out. I was expecting worse 😂

Everyone was super nice and I look forward to the future meet-ups with the group 😆

What defines whether a painting is good enough to sell? 🧐

I recently sold this painting to a friend of mine. When I made it, I saw little value in it despite liking the piece overall. It certainly wasn’t a polished piece ready for sale.

But my friend asked to see some smaller pieces I had, and when I sent her this she absolutely loved it! 💛 It just shows how you never know what someone else may see in your work.

Thank you Lissy! It’s now at @galeria151 for framing, I can’t wait to see how it looks framed 😆

Starting a NEW painting! 🙈

🌷 A NEW PIECE BEGINS… 🌷

Time for the next challenge! A new 60x60cm floral piece for @galeria151art 🤞🏼😆

This will be a WHITE ROSE on a DARK background, so it’s quite a task 😬 everyone knows how subtle the shifts in tone are when it comes to painting with white (and of course, no white is EVER just pure white out of the tube) so I’m equally excited and nervous about this one.

Despite how interesting I find them, flowers have always seemed to me a naive subject matter to paint. It’s a conflict I feel, perhaps as a ‘woman painting flowers’ they somehow become unserious, overtly ‘girly’ and immature. But I suppose it doesn’t change the fact that they are fascinating forms to me, and so I’ll continue to paint them.

I realise that I never formally posted any photos of this finished painting. And it’s a special one.

I painted this scene of my hometown, the local dockyard, because the sky always has brilliant colours at dawn and dusk and I wanted to capture that. I painted it without expectation and because I just simply loved the scene.

Completely by chance a lady passing happened to see it, fall in love with it, and buy it. My first sale to a complete stranger. Whatever energy I gave to this painting came back around in the best way.

I won’t be forgetting this one anytime soon.

Happy Easter! Today was the perfect setting for my first proper plein air session with oils (pochade box is by @leonholmesfineart), and I learnt a few things very quickly which I thought I’d share 😅

1. Check your materials! I brought the wrong medium with me, linseed oil, which was far too sticky and heavy for the quick washes I wanted to make.
2. When other artists say travel light, they really mean it. Oh my was my bag heavier than I expected, and I really thought I’d cut it down 😵‍💫
3. A preparatory sketch before touching the painting surface can be super useful. I made both a compositional sketch and value study; they really helped me focus on what I wanted from my painting.
4. Swans sound VERY odd. I was surrounded by a fair few 🦢

That’s it! It’s great to do research beforehand and talk to other artists before trying something new, but going out there and just giving it a go is the best way to learn. On to the next paint 👩🏼‍🎨

Hi everyone!! How are you all doing? I thought it would be nice to introduce myself here and tell you a little about me and my art journey so far 🦋 (cue long post, sorry!!)

My name is Erika, I’m 21, living in London and due to graduate in the summer (omg🥺). Unlike a lot of other artists, I didn’t have any interest in art or painting from a young age. I wanted to be an author actually !! I used to copy out my favourite books as a child when I learned to write.

I developed an interest in art during school, and ended up studying it right up until university. It never seemed possible that art could be a viable career so I didn’t go to art school.

When the first lockdown came, I thought this is my time to really give this a shot. And this Instagram account was born!! My dream is to exhibit in galleries & share what I love with everyone, explore new places with my paints by my side! I’m very grateful for everything art has provided for me in this crazy time .
